Acacia Ridge Community Centre

Acacia Ridge Community Centre has provided essential services and support to the local communities of Acacia Ridge and surrounding districts for over 30 years.

In 2022, Communify merged with former managers belong, a community services organisation based on Brisbane’s southside, for ongoing management of the centre. Acacia Ridge Community Centre continues to support community members with food relief and emergency relief, accredited training programs, English language and citizenship classes, free community lunches and community events.

Buses 110, 115 and 117 stop within 5 minutes’ walk of the community centre.

We have on-site parking and street parking available around the community centre.

Our services

Food co-op

Our food relief initiatives provide low-income earners on Brisbane’s southside a variety of general groceries every week.

The groceries available at our Food Co-Op range from general groceries to personal care items at a much lower cost than big chain supermarkets charge. Our food co-op helps ease the pressure by providing low cost and high-quality food to people struggling with rising costs and low incomes.

Simply pay an annual membership fee to have access all year round.

  • Opening hours: Tuesday to Thursday 9:00am – 12:00pm
  • Annual membership cost: $5.00

Emergency relief

Our emergency relief program aims to help individuals and families who are experiencing acute financial crisis due to unexpected circumstances.

We can support eligible people with emergency relief by providing fixed value vouchers for groceries and fuel.

Emergency relief is provided by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-1pm. Please contact us to make an appointment.

Community worker

Our community worker can help you access supports that address specific issues affecting your life.

Connect with your community worker by appointment, or by dropping in to the Acacia Ridge Community Centre from 9am – 2pm, Monday to Friday.

Our community worker can:

  • discuss your needs and aspirations
  • assist with you and your family’s specific needs
  • help you access services to meeting your needs, including things like training and employment, and access to a range of services including health, homelessness and disability.

Skilling Queenslanders For Work

We are proud to deliver a range of community-based training programs each year, funded through the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.

Our training participants often overcome barriers to employment, including long-term employment; recent migration status; being a young or mature-aged learner; and welfare-related issues (e.g. homelessness).

Our training projects engage with numerous industry partners who provide expertise and networks to prepare our participants for employment success.

English language and citizenship classes

Acacia Ridge Community Centre offers English language classes and Australian citizenship test tutoring.

Learners of all ages can practice their English in a relaxed, friendly, conversational setting. Our classes support people with levels of English ranging from beginner through to intermediate level.

Our English language classes run on Tuesdays from 9:30am – 11:30am. Please register with these classes before attending by emailing [email protected] to register your interest.

We also provide citizenship classes on Wednesdays from 9am – 11:30am to support community members with their preparations to apply for Australian Citizenship. The program assists migrant settlers to develop their understanding of Australian history, culture, civics, rights, responsibilities and the democratic process.
