North West Brisbane Community Hub 2023 wrap up

As a place-based community services provider, Communify recognises the importance of neighbourhood centres that operate as hubs for community engagement and through which we can deliver services that meet each community’s unique needs. That’s why we’re kicking off our Holiday of Hope campaign by highlighting the outstanding contributions made this year by North West Brisbane Community Hub, our longest-running neighbourhood centre.

For 30 years now, the Hub has been making an indelible impact within the community. Here are just a few examples of how the centre is supporting the needs of the people it serves:

This year, North West Brisbane Community Hub significantly expanded its Open House service offerings, with a total of 33 visiting services hosted at the centre. Several new programs were introduced to provide our community members with even more opportunities for social connection, including Mindful Movement in partnership with Reclink Australia, Ozharvest cooking classes, and an Employment Support Program designed to support participants who are struggling to secure ongoing employment.

Participant Success Story

One of our community members had been out of employment for quite some time and was struggling in his search for a job. The participant attended our Pantry where he became aware of Communify’s Employment Support Program offered at North West Brisbane Community Hub. He booked two sessions with a centre staff member for assistance with writing his resume and practicing job interview techniques, which boosted the participant’s confidence to seek employment.

A few days later, the Hub staff were incredibly pleased to receive an email from the participant advising us that they had signed a contract for a full-time role.

Thanks so much for your help with my resume. I will incorporate your great advice. I have some fantastic news for you – I have signed a contract for a full time position”
