North West Brisbane Community Hub

North West Community Hub is Communify’s longest-running neighbourhood centre. It opened in 1993, when Communify was known as the Red Hill/Paddington Community Centre. Thirty years later, the Hub has become a thriving centre, offering emergency relief, social support, and community groups and events.

If you’re driving here, there is ample parking along Jubilee Tce and surrounding streets. We’re just a short walk from the Bardon Central Shopping Centre, around the corner (60 MacGregor Tce, 260 m).

You can reach us using Translink buses:

  • Route 375: Bardon – City – RBWH – Stafford (Bus stop 15, 230m south of office)
  • Route 385: The Gap – Bardon – City – Cultural Centre (Bus stop 15, 230m south of office)
  • Route 61: Ashgrove – Bardon – City – Stones Corner (Maroon Bus stop, 290m south of office) – Maroon City Glider
  • Routes 598/599 – Great Circle Lines (Bus stops 16 and 16a, 260m south of office)

Our services

Our team offers a range of services to help community members who are increasingly affected by the cost-of-living crisis.

The Pantry

The Pantry, our food relief service, operates from 11am – 1pm every Monday to offer free food items to eligible people.

The Pantry offers food vouchers, bread, fruit and vegetables and fridge/frozen meals. To be eligible for the Pantry, you must be receiving a government pension or payment and live in inner north or inner west Brisbane.

If you would like to attend the Hub, and you haven’t visited before, please email hub@communify.org.au with your full name, residential address, contact number and a photo of your current Health Care card or Pension card.

Financial Assistance

  • Emergency Relief – accessible by phone only. Please call 3198 4410 between 11am-1pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Support can also be provided in person to Pantry attendees (if eligible) and at Open House on a Thursday 10am – 1pm.
    You must be in the Brisbane City Council region.
  • NILS (No Interest Loans) – Contact nils@communify.org.au to apply or complete online form here.
  • Financial Counsellor will be available for appointments fortnightly on Tuesdays at 9am and 12pm from 7th January 2025. Bookings are essential – please call 3510 2747 to book.
  • Tax help
  • Support and referral

Open House

Our centre offers a variety of support services and points of connection in a safe space every Thursday from 10am – 1pm.

Come to Open House for:

  • long-life pantry items
  • toasties, tea and coffee
  • chats with our staff and referrals
  • emergency relief/NILS
  • visiting services: QSTARS, Lawright, Thread Together, Hearing Australia, free hairdresser.

Counsellor

We have a weekly free counselling service on Wednesdays with appointments available onsite at 180 Jubilee Terrace at 9am, 10:30am and 12pm. Up to four free sessions are available to each person, and bookings are essential – email hub@communify.org.au or call 3510 2747.

Community programs, activities & events

We provide community programs to support people in financial hardship, encourage social connection, and enhance learning and wellbeing.

  • House of Soul, all abilities choir – a group of people with differing abilities and a shared love of music who come together to sing weekly on Wednesdays at Bald Hills Uniting Hall. 
  • Men’s Group – a safe and fun space for men to gather and talk about important issues, meeting weekly on Mondays at the Exchange at Kelvin Grove. 
  • Love St. Band music group – a free and relaxed music group offering jam sessions every Friday at The Spring Hill Studio.
  • Art Space – A safe and inclusive space for you to express your creativity, running weekly on Thursdays at 180 Jubilee Tce, Bardon. 
  • Peer led workshops – Regular community members who attend our programs share their skills by running community groups for mosaic-making, cartoon drawing and other activities. 
  • Regular community events, including bi-annual donation drives

We are always looking for more people, businesses and organisations to get involved in the community in whatever capacity they can:

Volunteer

Our volunteers are an invaluable part of the Communify family. The centre holds insurance covering people signed on as volunteers.

Donate

We greatly welcome monetary donations and donations of goods. If you’d like to financially support our work, you can make monetary donations in person at the centre or via our online donation link.

We welcome longlife food products for our pantry throughout the year, as well as donations for our Christmas appeal at the end of the year and donations towards our BBQ events. Please note that we don’t accept furniture or larger household goods.
