Sustaining Tenancies
Sustaining Tenancies
The Sustaining Tenancies program supports people who may be at risk of losing their tenancy. We provide practical assistance and ongoing personalised support to help you find suitable long-term housing and stay housed.
Sustaining Tenancies has supported thousands of people into long-term housing and maintains a zero eviction rate for participants.
You can contact our team via phone – or email between 8:30am-5pm Monday-Friday and our team will assist you with your enquiry. Depending on team availability, we can take drop-in appointments during business hours at our office location.
You can speak to us directly – no referral is required, though we accept referrals from housing providers on your behalf if you prefer. We aim to respond to all enquiries within 2 to 3 business days.
Generally there is a waitlist for our services due to high demand; however, we will remain in touch with you while you wait and we can offer a variety of interim supports.
If you are in crisis after-hours, please call the Homeless Hotline on 1800 474 753. In cases of emergencies, if life is in immediate danger, please call 000.
For Practitioners and Referral Services:
Sustaining Tenancies has established referral pathways with numerous housing service centers and community housing providers. We encourage referrals to come directly from housing providers, although this isn’t essential.
We have a referral form which can be downloaded here. Once completed, please email to sustainingtenancies@communify.org.au. Prior to submitting the referral form, it is imperative that the person has consented and all relevant information is provided on the form.
Referrals can be discussed with Naomi our Intake Worker, or Maddie our Pathways Support Navigator Monday to Thursday on 3510 2789.
Sustaining Tenancies supports people who are:
- Aged 18 or over
- Living in the Brisbane City Council catchment area
- Living in social or government housing
- Not currently receiving Aged Care or NDIS supports.
We are unable to support people living in private rental properties or homeowners.

Stories from our clients
Talented chef Phillipe was unemployed, homeless, and struggling with severe mental health challenges when he was referred by a social worker to Communify’s Sustaining Tenancies team.
Shona is among an alarmingly growing demographic now facing homelessness who have never experienced it before this recent housing crisis. A retired nurse and mother at 67 years of age, Shona had spent her life caring for others and never reaching out for help in return. In February 2023, she was living alone, privately renting an apartment in Kangaroo Point, when her landlord decided to sell the unit and allowed Shona only four weeks to vacate the property.
Supported housing programs
In partnership with BRIC Housing, Sustaining Tenancies provides onsite support at two accommodation sites in Brisbane.
Binkenba Gunya
Binkenba Gunya (Binkenba Place) is a transitional supported housing facility designed to support First Nations women over 45 and women over 50 into secure long-term housing. The program offers short-term, self-contained units, with furnished or unfurnished options available and onsite support available.
Binkenba Place operates through a culturally-informed lens to empower women, guided by First Nations cultural goals of community by connection, care and respect to help connect women with a sustainable “gunya” home.
The Binkenba Place program is guided by a recovery-focused model to help women identify their own long-term goals around health and wellbeing. We aim to create a sense of belonging for women, by working alongside them in their healing journey.
Clayfield House
Clayfield House is a long-term social housing complex for seniors delivered in partnership with BRIC Housing. Sustaining Tenancies provides onsite support to tenants.
