The Way Back Support Service
The Way Back Support Service
The Way Back Support Service is a non-clinical support service focused on providing emotional and practical support for up to three months to people who have recently experienced a suicidal crisis or attempted suicide.
Communify is the lead agency for The Way Back Support Service, working in partnership with Brisbane Youth Service and the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health.
Who we help
The Way Back Support Service is a strictly referral-based service – self-referrals are not possible for this program.
The program accepts referrals only from clinicians based at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Prince Charles Hospital. Referrals are advanced via clinical care consultants within each hospital’s Acute Care Teams.
Participants must also be aged 15 years or older and must have experienced a recent suicide attempt or suicidal crisis.
The Way Back Support Service is unavailable to anyone currently receiving NDIS funding.
How we help
As a non-crisis service, The Way Back Support Service provides structured support with regular appointments, scheduled weekly or fortnightly, to assist people on their healing journey.
Our Support Coordinators work with participants to provide:
- Practical support centered around safety and personal empowerment
- Comprehensive and ongoing safety planning
- Support to clarify personal needs and goals to promote safety and security
- Connections to clinical and community-based support services
- Encouragement to engage with support networks and interest groups
- A personalised approach, meeting participants at their individual points in their journey to recovery
The Way Back Support Service is an outreach-based service. Our service is distinguished by our timely, responsive, and individualised support. We offer face-to-face assistance, ensuring personalised care and immediate attention to each individual’s needs.
Though support is offered primarily face to face, remote appointments can be provided if in-person appointments are not suitable.
Please note that this program does not provide acute crisis support, clinical support, NDIS services, case management or after-hours support.
