Know Your Rights During a Disaster

Come along to our event on Thursday June 15^th 11.30 – 1.30pm at New Farm Neighbourhood Centre to learn about your rights and the resources available to you to help you with disaster preparation and management.

We have panel members who will provide key information and answer questions you may have on; Disaster Management Preparedness, Tenants Rights, Insurance Advocacy and Financial Counselling in a disaster.

• Would you like to know how to better prepare for a future flood or other disasters?
• Have you thought about who you need to contact in an emergency or what items you need to take if you have to leave your home in an emergency?
• If you have a disability and rely on a lift to leave the building– what do you do if the electricity is cut and you can’t exit your home? What plan do you have in place?
• What plan do you have for your pets in a disaster/emergency?
• Do you know what to do if you can’t leave your home and you have no electricity? Do you have a Home Emergency Kit for future disasters?
• If you rent, do you want to know your rights in a disaster, ie, if your landlord demands the rental payments, but you can’t access your rental property?  Who can assist if you have mould in your rental home?
• Financial Counselling.  What is this and how can it assist you in a disaster?
• The rising cost of your Home Insurance due to flooding zonal areas. Do you want someone to advocate on your behalf regarding this?

We welcome all community members, including people with a disability, pension aged and informal carers. The venue is fully accessible. Light refreshments will also be available during the session.
